Betsy Karp Creates Her Own Custom Fragrance At The Scentarium

BETSY KARP with her Bespoke Fragrance which she named "AWAKE"[/caption] Woke up this morning excited to use my new scent that I created called "Awake". I was invited yesterday by Sue Phillips, the owner of Scenterprises, to The Scentaruim. The whole experience was an awakening of the senses. I used a combination of the essences citrus, green, ozonic, and tonic sport to make the perfect medley of a refreshing, energizing, and fresh perfume. It is perfect for me to use right now as I wanted something that was going to make me feel alive and get me moving towards what I need to do right now in my life. It connected my emotions to the colors turquoise, soft green, and clear yellows - colors that are about joy, clarity, and abundance.
Sue is a charismatic, beautiful woman who knows about the complexity and depth of essences and how to share that knowledge to best suit your needs. It was one of the best days I have had in a very long time, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new way to open up your mind, your heart, and have something that stays with you throughout the day and night. Creating your own signature scent is a great way to learn more about who you are and what you want to reveal https://youtu.be/APyNE94MNq4 https://youtu.be/mfDxO-m0d98

FRAGRANCE & FRIENDSHIP - A Memorable Combination!

Have you ever wanted to “bottle” a memory or an experience? Creating “memorable” experiences is something which, I believe, many people want to capture, whether it be for personal or professional reasons. Having been involved in the world of fragrance for many years, it is a fact that our Sense of Smell connects Memories and Emotions.

At my perfumery, The Scentarium, we have been creating and capturing memories and emotions for thousands of clients with our Custom Fragrance workshops. Imagine my delight when I met with four wonderful women who came all the way from the UK to celebrate a milestone event in NY! Their story is unique, and one of the most original that I have experienced over the past 7 years of creating Custom Fragrance events for clients.
I received an email from Victoria who wanted to schedule an appointment to celebrate a friend’s BIG birthday, and asked me to make it ‘extra special’ by having champagne and ‘goodies’ available as it was her 50th! I said of course. We settled on a date and the day soon arrived.
On the day, in walked two lovely British ladies, and shortly thereafter the other two arrived. I asked each of them about their backgrounds and lifestyles and a lovely story unfolded about their UNIQUE friendship.
It turns out that the 4 women, Victoria, Eunice, Nikki and birthday girl, Sara have been friends for 18 years. They met at work in 1998 where they worked for an international firm in London in a demanding, deadline-driven department on very serious initiatives. They are all from different backgrounds, and are very different people with different ideals. Their common denominator is that they work hard, play hard and have celebrated their milestone occasions for the past 18 years, initially alone, and now with their partners, husbands and significant others as well. Their friendship is palpable! They truly love and admire each other and what keeps them in touch is their honestly, integrity, caring, warmth, kindness, fun, love of new experiences and making new memories. They connect through their diversities and being open and valuing what each of them bring to the table. In the words of Victoria: “THROUGH THICK AND THIN WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE EACH OTHER!! “
The most compelling part of the story is that they planned the celebration of Sara’s 50th birthday, in secret, 9 months prior to the date. The 3 friends worked out all the details – flights, hotels, meals, different activities, and booked the Custom Fragrance Event at The Scentarium without a word to Sara. How they managed to get her to the airport, (her partner took her passport) was a feat unto itself, and the only thing he told her was to pack for cold weather! Imagine her surprise when all her friends showed up on the same flight!
The Custom Fragrance event was wonderful. They all designed and created their own signature fragrances and I know for sure that every-time they wear their scents they will be reminded of the beautiful, memorable birthday event they celebrated together. They each formulated their bespoke perfumes, and the names of their fragrances? Originally Sara selected “Heaven Sent” then changed it to ‘CHERISH’ because she cherishes her friendships; Victoria called hers “VICTOIRE”; Nikki’s was ‘ELAN” (after her business name) and Eunice’s was “MEMORIES”. All very personalized.
The laughter, giggles and fun they all had was compelling and contagious in the pictures we took. They did indeed “bottle” Sara’s special occasion and their lasting friendship. And then they discussed how they would ‘top’ next year’s momentous event! That might be a challenge after this event, but I am sure that they will find a fabulous activity to commemorate their next celebration.
I certainly hope they take their bottles of “friendship” with them wherever they go!! And if they were to combine all of their perfumes in one bottle, and name it? The name might be: “FFF - FRIENDSHIP & FRAGRANCE FOREVER”

The Sweet Smell Of Confidence Or The Awful Stench Of Arrogance?

In the light of the stunning news this week, and to try and offer a sense of perspective to this perplexing victory, the question that is being asked by more than 50% of the population is “what led to this situation?” No solid plans were ever outlined. However, what was evident, and what was heard every single day, were plenty of racist, xenophobic remarks; TV clips showing misogyny; vociferous bullying and mocking of women as well as handicapped victims. Gold Star families were insulted, we heard boastful remarks of being able to stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody with no loss of voters, and false claims of  birtherism were frequent litanies heard with bold conviction; unapologetic and with constant sound bites of ‘BELIEVE ME Folks, It’s true, all true!! So why can some people speak with such hateful and negative rhetoric and be successful, while others are more deferential and fail?  In my opinion, the overarching feature of this is CONFIDENCE – supreme, blind, belief, faith, conviction and trust in one’s own abilities. What is Confidence? Confidence is the state of feeling certain about the truth of something. Confidence is the feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities. (Whether right or wrong!). With frequent and constant repetition of one’s own ‘self-talk’, the talk ultimately becomes reality and eventually the truth! (even if it is only a figment of the imagination, and totally untrue).  “I speak therefore I am!”  Confidence is beguiling and seductive.  It attracts and enchants whomever comes into its’ path. It is spellbinding dazzling and mesmerizing. People love people who are confident, assured and charming. People want to be around people who are confident.  Confidence builds confidence… and with constant congratulatory slaps on the back, actions and words are validated and so the cycle (or myth) continues. Is being confident akin to being egotistical or arrogant? Was it confidence that led to the egotistical narrative that has dominated our consciousness or is it pure arrogance? It seems that with constant repetition of ideas, thoughts and beliefs uttered with a strong voice, confidence, ego or arrogance dominates the rhetoric, and people are swayed and beguiled by it. There are many factors that result in confidence e.g. a loving family upbringing, positive childhood memories and successful actions. However, in lieu of not having those, would anybody want to spray on the Sweet Smell of Confidence or will it be a dab of the Awful Stench of Arrogance?

Beginner’s Guide To Learning More About Fragrances

Fragrance is one of the most exciting topics any person can be involved with learning how to make because each fragrance is not created all the same as the scent and sub-scents used to create fragrance are unique just like each person has an individual personality. Consider this for a moment;two persons want to wear the same perfume. Both are given the same then asked to sniff and provide one word for a response of what they feel. The response could very well be completely different as every person has different sensory features and what one may like another may not. The above was a brief scenario but in essence every person has his or her own desire and like when wanting aromas and fragrances. Did you know there are four categories of scents and there are multiple sub-scents in each one? This is for good reason because every one of us has a different and unique liking to fragrance. With that thought in mind why not learn how to make fragrance for yourself so you can create exactly what fragrances you desire and they will always be unique just like your personality?  The shop that can assist in teaching you more about creating fragrances is Scenterprises. The owner, Sue Phillips is quite helpful with her knowledge and experience in the world of perfume and she can provide you with guidance by explaining the perfume pyramid. This is a helpful pyramid because it shows the top note, middle note, and the base note selections you will be using after taking your sensory quiz. The answers from your quiz will show what type of aromas you favor. Those three aromas will be the selection of notes to create your very own custom perfume. When you have selected those items you will be provided with instructions along with pipets and a fragrance bottle to place your blend into. During your blending it is wise to keep in mind always test your perfume upon the skin instead of using a cotton ball or paper. Testing on the skin will give you the best chance to smell all items that are being used in your perfume blend. Another important tip to keep in mind is that each note scent should equally work together like a chorus. The top note scent is mild and does fade away but the middle note scent will then enter and then linger on. This scent will also smooth out over time. The base note scent will be noticed easily, and it is concentrated. It is important to use light amounts to ensure there is no over powering and every note works together in harmony.Visit Scenterprises to begin your experience and learn more how to make fragrance.
